Lucifer, the Universe, and Everything

You gotta know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em.  Kenny Rogers, ‘The Gambler’

If you are a person who accepts, or even seriously considers, miraculous beginnings, the idea that folding holds any importance at all in the pattern of creation, (as discussed in the previous post), probably seems strange, if not downright ludicrous. Yet, in speaking of heaven and earth, the scriptures say:

One day God will fold them up like clothing, and they will be changed.

Folding constitutes a change, or a separation. We read in the third chapter of Genesis that:

God drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, a flaming sword and a folding, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The concepts of both predestination and free will are compassed. The cut, the break in symmetry is what predestines, and the subsequent unfolding is the product of will.

The ages of the earth are determined by folding (see The Glory of Kings for more info). The pattern of times folds as follows:

Perhaps the most interesting of all is the role Satan plays in this. We are told that the gifts and call of God are irrevocable. Thus Lucifer, no longer by will but by destiny, continues to this present day to fulfill the mandate for which he was created. And of Lucifer we can state that his official role is:

He around whom creation is folded.

Here is our timeline, drawn out in this fashion:

Of his end we are told that:

The devil is thrown into the lake of fire, where he is tormented forever.

And thus, ignominiously, ends his role as creation’s folding point.
